Shuttle STS-113 Air/Ground Recorded Comms

On 11/23/02 at 19:49 hrs EST Space Shuttle Endeavour STS-113 launches from the Kennedy Space Center. While I was viewing the launch from my favorite viewing location in Titusville (only 8 NM from the pad) I had decided to leave a scanner at home (Daytona Beach, FL) locked on 259.7000 MHz which is the Shuttle Air/Ground frequency used in the first few minutes of launch. Note, this frequency is also used once the shuttle enters earth's atmosphere for landing. While the scanner was locked on 259.7000 the audio out from the scanner was being digitally recorded on one of my computers. I was hoping to catch some live Air/Ground comms during the first few minutes of flight. When I came home I was pleasantly surprised that IT WORKED! Plus there was a bonus! You can hear not only the shuttle but you could hear Houston's first radio call "Houston Endeavour, go at throttle up".

The software used to record the audio is a VOX recorder which means it only records voice, not the silence between radio calls. This was recorded using a Uniden BC 780XLT scanner and the AntennaWarehouse ScanTenna.
